What these numbers mean
The Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment publishes how many employment permits it issues to each company. These figures are for the company registered as Ernst & Young. They count permits, not people, and include renewals as well as new hires. They show that Ernst & Young has used the permit system and knows the process. They do not show which roles were sponsored, and they do not mean every job Ernst & Young advertises is open to candidates who need a permit.
How to approach Ernst & Young as a candidate who needs sponsorship
Know which permit fits the role. The two most common are the Critical Skills Employment Permit, for occupations on the Critical Skills list or roles above a higher salary threshold, and the General Employment Permit, which covers a wider range of jobs but usually needs the employer to show the role could not be filled from within the EEA first. Both have minimum salaries that the Department reviews, so check the current figures on enterprise.gov.ie.
Start from Ernst & Young’s own careers site. Some adverts say whether sponsorship is available. Where one does not, apply to roles that match the permit you would qualify for, and say early and plainly what you need, so nobody finds out at offer stage.
If you studied in Ireland, check your stamp. Graduates on Stamp 1G can work full time without an employment permit while it lasts, which makes you far easier to hire. Many then move to a Critical Skills permit with the same employer later.
If you hold an EU, EEA, Swiss or UK passport, you do not need a permit at all.
